7 Signs Indicating You Are Experiencing Mental Fatigue

There are moments in life where we feel like we just cannot do it anymore. Have you ever felt that way before? If the answer is affirmative, we need to know that we are experiencing mental fatigue.

When you are under a lot of stress because of being too busy, you will experience these brain symptoms. We know how it feels to be physically exhausted, but being mentally exhausted is more serious since the brain controls the entire body.

Here are seven signs of mental fatigue and ways that can help you fight it.

1. There is Too Much of Everything

When there is too much noise, smells, physical movement, mental activity, sights, listening to others, etc., and all of this is happening in a busy environment, it is too much.

So, when you are experiencing all of this, you experience signs of stress and mental fatigue. Sometimes you may even ask people to repeat themselves continuously, and you miss details that you were supposed to see, such as spelling errors.

If you feel this, you should try turning off the noisy devices such as music, fan, buzzing lights, TV, etc. Make eye contact with the person you are speaking to and pay attention. Make sure to limit multi-tasking as much as you can.

2. Not Enough Vacation

When was the last time you have had a vacation? Downtime and staying away from things that cause mental fatigue are two effective ways of managing mental fatigue.

You should limit how much thinking you have to do, and sometimes you should postpone some things if possible. Also, you can have a day spa that will refresh you and help you think in a clear way. Even only a few minutes outside can be of help.

3. Mental Block

When you are completely mentally drained, you cannot think anymore. You need to stop thinking and give your brain time to recover. Mental blocking is a safeguard that prevents us from working all the time, as reported by the Journal of Psychology.

Actually, the brain stops working when you are mentally exhausted.

4. More Emotional Than Usual

Mental fatigue can result in anxiety and depression. Since the level of energy is very low, when you are mentally exhausted, you may feel like you are depressed. Also, you may feel anxious that the situation will not become better.

5. Physical Symptoms

The physical symptoms you may experience are diarrhea, headaches, loss of appetite, constipation, stomach discomfort, jitters, and insomnia. You can consult your doctor or your therapists for some tips that can help you out.

6. Forgetfulness

Memory lapse and forgetfulness are signs of mental fatigue. Even though the brain is processing a lot of information, it cannot create free space for new memories. That is why sleeping is important.

If you are mentally fatigued, you will have a hard time focusing and remembering things. You should stop doing things that can be harmful to you or others until you get enough rest.

7. You May Explode If Someone Asks More Questions

When you have spent an entire day answering questions and making decisions, you feel totally exhausted, so you would explode if someone asks one more question.

You can try letting other people make small decisions such as what to have for dinner because even this can be of help to avoid mental fatigue.

Keep in mind that mental health is very important, you have to take care of yourself. Take a break and breathe.
