Hugging is The Best Form of Communication and Way to Express Emotions

When we have a bad day, all we need is a hug from the right person to make us feel whole again. Ever felt that? It’s like that because hugging is a powerful way to express many emotions some of which are sadness, love, admiration, fear, happiness, and joy.

It’s a way to connect to another person and show comfort, compassion, and care. A well-known family therapist, Virginia Satir says that we need 12 hugs a day for growth, 4 hugs a day for survival, and 8 for maintenance.

Hugs are crucial for our well-being and health. Below we’ll present a few reasons why hugging is good for us.

Reasons Why Hugging Is Good for Our Well-Being

  • Hugs strengthen the immune system (the gentle pressure on the sternum and the emotional charge actually activates one Chakra the Solar Plexus which stimulates the thymus gland and balances the production of white blood cells)
  • Hugging helps when we are grieving (it helps soothe pain and calms the soul)
  • Hugging lowers stress (it helps reduce the cortisol levels)
  • Hugging calms and improves mood (it provides closeness and warmth)
  • Hugging relaxes the muscles and the whole body (it helps remove the tension in the body)
  • Hugging lowers the risk of different illnesses (it lowers stress and helps prevent its many negative effects)
  • Hugging reduces anxiety and fear (touch eases the fear in those with low self-esteem)
  • Hugging leads to euphoria and happiness (it raises the oxytocin levels, the “bonding hormone” and the “love hormone”)

These are just a few reasons why we should start giving hugs to those who matter to us more often. Remember hugs are the simplest and warmest way to enjoy health, connect with people, express emotions, feel happiness.

And the best is the fact that hugs are free.
