7 Behaviors We Will Never Tolerate If We Have Self-Respect

Sometimes, to respect ourselves means not tolerating certain things in life. Living in a society that makes us think everyone around us is perfect can force us to do things we don’t like just to be part of the group.

But, there’s no such thing as perfect, including people. Our priority should be to have self-respect by staying true to ourselves, and the things we believe are right. It’s ok to be different and not be the person everyone expects us to become.

Be yourself and embrace your imperfections and uniqueness. A good way to achieve that is to stop tolerating the following behaviors.

1. People Pleasing

First of all, you can’t please everyone, and people will always have expectations and demands for you. Second, when it comes to your life, no one matters but you! Stop pleasing people just to avoid them being disappointed in you.

Self-respecting people are concerned about not disappointing themselves, and not others. So, trust your instinct and do what feels right for you without caring about other people’s opinions. You’ll see a whole new world opening up for you.

2. Negative Self-perception

Having a negative self-perception will make you see the world as a gray and negative place. You won’t be enthusiastic and excited about your future, or present, and you’ll never be completely happy.

On the other hand, self-respecting people have constant positive thoughts about themselves, their careers, relationships, and goals. So, start thinking more positively, and your world will become a happy and beautiful place.

3. Staying in the Comfort Zone

A lot of people try to avoid the unknown and uncomfortable by staying in the safety net as long as possible. Although staying in the comfort zone will help them achieve that, it will also prevent them from growing as a person.

If you respect yourself enough you’ll know that you should push the boundaries to see how much you’ll evolve as a person and how far you’ll go in life. Remaining stagnant is the worst thing you can do for yourself.

4. Working a Dead-End Job You Hate

Sometimes you might end up working a job you hate just to pay the bills. But, you should never allow being stuck to that soul-sucking job that drains your energy.

Have a little respect for yourself as well as your mental and emotional wellbeing, and leave that job to find a new, more fulfilling one. Never stop pursuing your dream job!

5. Ignoring Your Health

This is something you should never allow yourself. If you are neglecting your health, nothing on this list matters. Don’t expect someone else to take care of your physical, mental, and emotional health – it’s your duty!

Even though it may require a longer time, changing your health for the better is possible. Self-respecting people know that without optimal health, they can’t enjoy their life to the fullest.

6. Possessive Relationships

If you have enough self-respect, you will never tolerate a relationship where another person is dictating your life. Toxic relationships are bad for your health. Even though it may not be easy to recognize them at first, you can always find a way out.

Just analyze every relationship in your life, including friends, family members, and partners, and think about how these people make you feel. Are they raising you up or bringing you down? Don’t be afraid to cut toxic people out of your life – they only want to control and manipulate you.

7. Laziness

People with self-respect are never complacent and always strive for more. They never stop pursuing their dreams and goals, no matter how much time and effort it takes. So, don’t let modern technology entertain you most of the time.

Find other, more productive hobbies and go out in the real world to fulfill your needs and desires.

Final Words

Remember that not doing the things you love is wasting your precious time. This refers to people, relationships, job, diet, hobby, workout routines, and every other part of your life. Your duty is not to survive but to thrive!
