Dragonflies Can Eat Hundreds of Mosquitos a Day. Keep These Plants in The Yard to Attract Dragonflies

Turns out dragonflies can keep mosquitoes away from us. To be more precise, they can eat them. Who knew there was a natural solution to this annoying problem we face every summer.

Instead of chemicals, we can keep or attract dragonflies in our garden to get rid of these annoying insects.

There’s no reason to be afraid of dragonflies, as they can only harm mosquitos. An adult dragonfly eats adult mosquitos, whereas a dragonfly larva eats mosquito larvae.

But, how to attract dragonflies in your yard when they usually live in slow following rivers, lakes, and ponds?

Here are a few tips to attract dragonflies and keep mosquitos away from you:

1. Install a Pond

These insects spend a lot of time underwater, therefore, it may be a good idea to install a pond in your yard. The pond should be a few feet deep and around 15 feet in diameter.

You can also build a place for dragonflies to rest by adding a few rocks at the edge. For those who can’t dig a hole, they can always use a small pool.

2. Grow Water Plants

You can add water lilies to your pond as they lay eggs on plants. Since dragonflies spend a lot of time underwater, you may grow Gluceria Maxima. This is a perfect plant to attract dragonflies as they love to climb on it.

3. Vitamin B1

Did you know that vitamin B1 masks the natural odors mosquitos love? Take a tablespoon of spirulina a day to get the necessary amount of vitamin B1 to repel mosquitos.
