4 Plants That You Should Have In Your Bedroom To Sleep Well

There are many people who suffer from insomnia, sleep disturbances, and sleep apnea. When their breathing is interrupted during sleep it’s a disorder called sleep apnea.

People who don’t treat this sleeping disorder may have that problem continuously while they sleep, and that results in their brains not getting enough oxygen.

Sleep apnea has two types:

1. Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This type of sleep apnea happens during sleep when the back of the soft tissue of the throat collapses. (1)

2. Central Sleep Apnea

This is the second type of sleep apnea. It happens when you have no blocked airway, but the brain does not transmit signals to your muscles to respire. That is a result of the unstable respiratory control center.

Everyone can be affected by sleep apnea. Anyway, there are some risk factors that contribute to this problem, and those are having a large neck, being overweight, being more than 40 years old, and gastroesophageal reflux.

Also, apnea may contribute to a family history of sleep apnea, being male, as well as nasal blockages because of allergies, deviated septum, or sinus problems.

Luckily, nature is in our favor. There are natural ways that can help you improve your sleep. All you have to do is have some of the next plants in the room in which you sleep, and you will get a nice, calm, and relaxing atmosphere to enjoy.

1. Snake Plant

The other name of this ‘Snake Plant’ is ‘Mother-in-Law’s Tongue.’ This is a great plant that can help you get better quality air in your bedroom. Most plants take away the oxygen at night, but this plant transforms CO2 into oxygen.

One NASA study and the researcher K. Meattle say that this is one of the three houseplants that make the indoor air better. Also, the Snake Plant purifies the air from xylene, toluene, formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene. (2)

2. Lavender

Lavender has a beautiful scent. It is some of the most famous plants that help in lowering anxiety and promoting sleep. Studies say that lavender lowers blood pressure, and stress levels, and slows down the heart rate. (3)

According to one study, babies stopped crying and fell into deep sleep. (4) Also, the stress on the mother and the baby was lowered. Moreover, lavender helps women to increase their light sleep and lower their REM sleep. (5)

Instead of purchasing sleep masks or lavender mattresses, choose the natural way – keep a lavender plant in your bedroom.

NASA uses this plant among others in order to purify the air. It is easy and simple to grow and needs just a little exposure to sunlight. Some studies say that English Ivy can help with the symptoms of asthma or allergies. (6)

This is a great plant that can decorate your room besides providing you with good sleep. However, please note that it is toxic to pets and kids, so, you need to make sure to keep English Ivy out of reach.

4. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera belongs to the list of NASA’s plants that purify the air. It has the same role as Snake Plant – it produces oxygen at night. It is easy and simple to grow, and it does not need watering.

Also, this plant reproduces easily, so buying one plant means you will have much more soon. Interestingly, Aloe Vera has a gel that you can use to treat burns and minor cuts, dry skin, insect bites, and so on.

As you can see, even sleeping can be improved in a natural way. Just make your choice of which plants to place in your bedroom, and you will have a better sleep.
