Children Inherit Intelligence From Their Mothers, Not Their Fathers

Fathers may get angry after reading this article because new studies say that mothers are the ones that pass the intelligence to their children.

Before the results of the new research, doctors thought that both parents passed intelligence to their children. This discovery is true and open to discussion.

Genetics is not simple, but extremely complicated and challenging field of research. It is best to have an objective perspective towards the studies.Well, here is an explanation of the work of X and Y chromosomes. Chromosomes are a composition of protein and nucleic acids. They have a formation like a thread.

Their role is to store and transfer the genetic info. Every human being has a pair of chromosomes in every cell of the body. Men have one X and one Y chromosome, while women have two X chromosomes.

Explanation of X and Y Chromosomes

Chromosomes are a composition of protein and nucleic acids. They have a formation like a thread. Their role is to store and transfer the genetic info. Every human being has a pair of chromosomes in every cell of the body. Men have one X and one Y chromosome, while women have two X chromosomes.

Humans have gender-specific genes, and the specific selection activates or deactivates them, so this affects the genetic features. Genes that are active impact the genetic development and the deactivated genes have no impact. This means that if the mother activates one characteristic, the genes from the father become inactive, and vice versa.

Apparently, since women have two X chromosomes, and men only one, they affect the cognitive abilities. This theory is wider; it is not only about the X chromosomes.

Tests Made on Genetically Modified Mice

Scientists believe that intelligence is inherited from the mothers. So, they tested the theory on some genetically modified mice. The findings showed that mice that got genetic chromosomes from mothers have grown bigger head and brain, but developed a smaller body.

On the other hand, mice who got genetic material from fathers, have grown a bigger body, but a smaller scalp and brain. Additionally, scientists observed the six areas of the brain that had genes from the mother or the father.

Anyway, this theory that mothers have an impact on children’s intelligence is not new. According to scientists from the University of Cambridge, a study from 1984, revealed that genes from the mother get more material to centers of the brain.

Another informative study, conducted by scientists from Scotland, discovered that the IQ of mothers indicates high intelligence. The study followed 26,686 humans from the age of 14 to 22, and every year they questioned and observed the development of their intelligence (they took into account the ethnic and educational background).

However, no matter if there is a strong proof of this theory, some people may never accept it. But, it is not only genetics that contributes to children’s intelligence. Nutrition and nurturing of a child have an impact on its intellectual development.

Also, there is that special connection between a mother and a child which helps them solve many problems together.

After all, women have a huge role in a child’s life and intellectual development. There are plenty of signs that prove that.
